Meet | Me

I’m Samantha, and this is my space.

I rewrite my about section more often than I get to hug my mum. When I visit a website, it’s the first place I visit. I want to know who the person is behind the words.

So what do you need to know about me? Well, to start, I live big. Big adventures like moving across the world a handful of times, big emotions like joy and fear and peace- often on the same day, big whimsy, big reading lists, big ambitions.

I’m set to marry my best friend in just a few months, and it couldn’t come sooner. Evert lives big too, but the first thing you’d notice is his height. I like to point out his grace, his talent, his kindness, his craziness, his gentleness.

Celebration is part of my daily life, when I choose to remember it. We’re talking “I baked a cake” celebrations, “I didn’t cry today!” celebrations. “I did what I said I’d do” celebrations. “You are a fantastic friend” celebrations. “Love is worth mentioning” celebrations. I think I should carry around a bag of confetti and a balloon with me everywhere I go.

I’m 26, so I know enough to know that I don’t know enough. My mum is wiser than I ever knew, life is more complicated than I ever understood, and Jesus is simultaneously my greatest friend and biggest mystery guest. I believe in change, in love, in beauty, in celebration, in whimsy and in Jesus. Then again, all those other words are just names to express who He is.

I can’t promise that what you read here will be any good, but it’s from my heart nonetheless.

Oh, one last thing:

Go live life. Live fully alive. Dig and fight through every lesson, be passionately in love with Jesus. No regrets, loads of mistakes, and one full, beautiful, messy and wonderful life. That’s what I pray for you.

xoxo Samantha

    Nane Hofland - Hi Samantha,

My name is Nane. I live in the same place as your familymember Corina.
A few weeks ago, she asked me to join her group on their trip to Amsterdam.
Yesterday we went also with Corina, to a Praise night. It was pretty awesome and someone was using an example of prostitues in his story. I was thinking about the trip next sunday.
I’m excited, but to be honest, also a little bit scared.
I’m a teacher and last July we went with our school to Amsterdam and also the red ligt district. I was shocked and sad. That night I prayed for the girls over there.

I would like to say to you, that I think you do a really good job. God Bless you and we will meet next weekend.

      Samantha - Hello Nane!

I understand your feelings of fear, but I want to encourage you to lay that before God. In Him there is no fear, for He is love. It’s easy to be overwhelmed when we see so much pain, hurt, and darkness, but His word reminds us to keep our eyes locked on Jesus, to think of things from above. I am looking forward to meeting you on Sunday, and hopefully I can show you that God is really powerful and is doing incredible things here in Amsterdam!

      Blessings, SamanthaReplyCancel

    Reina - Hi Samantha,

I was with Nane, Corina and the rest in Amsterdam last sunday to visite you. We where so inspired that we sang out loud in the train thinking at you:

Love shine a light in Every corner of the world
Let the love light carry, let the love light carry
Light up the magic for every boy and girl
Let our love shine a light in every corner of the world.

    See you sunday.

      Samantha - Reina!

I’m sorry I’m just responding now to your comment. I’m so glad to hear God touched your heart in Amsterdam, and amen- let’s all shine His light for the world to see!
